Why I Left Paradise

Thoughts and prayers to all my Hawaii friends and ohana during this time. You changed my life for the better and you will always have a special place in my heart.

It was not an easy decision for me to sell my business and move 4,761 miles away from paradise, but it was a decision I needed to be true to my values and find balance in my life. I was juggling various responsibilities, deadlines, and commitments. I felt overwhelmed by the constant demand of my business and did not have time for my family and struggled to care of myself.

The turning point for me became clear during the pandemic. I became so aware of how many thousands of miles were between my family and Hawaii. That coupled with the pressure of running a business that was forced to change drastically, I felt tired and conflicted. I ultimately made the decision to sell the business and move to the mainland to be closer to family.

I have vowed to do things differently this time. In this email, I will share tips on how I am finding harmony. Below are some practical tips on how to achieve it.

  1. Prioritize: Identify your core values and what truly matters to you. By understanding your priorities, you can allocate your time and energy. Block out time in your schedule in advance for what matters to you.

  2. Set boundaries: Okay – this is the most difficult for me, but honestly it is empowering to say “No.” I determined early on what one organization I am going to volunteer with, and how many networking events I want to attend weekly or monthly. For me, it is about quality, not quantity.

  3. Practice self-care: Make yourself a priority. Take the time (and put it into your schedule) to read, exercise, meditate, and spend time with family and friends. I had shared on a post how I walk the lake by my house almost every day. Being in nature helps me find my balance.

  4. Be flexible: Life rarely goes according to plan, and that’s okay. Be adaptable. This helps minimize stress and maintain balance.

Remember, balance is not a one-time achievement but an ongoing journey. It requires conscious effort, self-reflection, and the willingness to adapt.  Hopes this information helps you create your balance.
